Weekly Strokes' Handwriting Analysis Newsletter
"Handwriting Analysis and Your Stolen Identity"

=======================================

Dear Friend

Who has access to your Social Security Number or credit cards?

Identity theft is one of America's fastest-growing crimes.
This newsletter can help protect you.

A very good friend of mine has spent hours upon hours and
stress galore over the last several months trying to put her life
and her credit back together. Someone stole her identity.
The total stranger used her identity to run up thousands of
dollars in merchandise over three states before he was caught.
Thankfully, he was convicted, and is serving time.

But, she'll never get back all the time she lost, or be
compensated for her stress, and she may never fully
repair the damage to her credit. She was unable to
refinance her house, or lease a new car – and she has
NEVER BEEN LATE ON A BILL.

Scary, isn't it?
That's why details about forgery are relevant to everyone.

Hopefully, you won't be victimized by a forgery – or stolen
identity – but it could happen. Protect yourself by NEVER
giving anyone your Social Security Number, and
keep this email on file in case someone forges your name.

The companies didn't care about her "sob story," even
though it was true. It took a police report and letter from a
court-qualified Questioned Document Examiner to clear her
good name.

Most people don't even know a letter from a forgery expert
will help rebuild their credit and clear their name in
the eyes of the bank.

After her consultation with the forgery expert,
she finally had legal evidence that she was a victim of forgery
and identity theft. More importantly, she had peace of mind
that someone could prove her innocence, and would also
guide her and her attorney through the legal/credit system;
which is, in part, why I am expanding my career to include
"Expert Document Examiner" on my business card.

The Forensics of Forgery by Taylor Morgan

I've decided to change careers. (Expand my career.)
Don't get me wrong; I love analyzing personality through
handwriting. It's an amazing science, and I wouldn't trade
that knowledge for anything.

But for many years, I've been curious about working
in the legal field. I successfully defended myself in court,
years ago. (OK, it was a traffic case, but still, I was
brilliant).

And I've always been attracted to detective work. I
constantly read books about true crime cases, or even
books of fiction that detail investigating a case, finding
sometimes microscopic evidence, then demonstrating it as
evidence with enough weight to hold up in court.

But, I'm a little too squeamish to become a Medical Examiner.
And, I accidentally forgot to sign up for law school.

As it turns out, I'm going to be in forensics after all. I am
in the Fall class of Handwriting University's School of
Forensic Document Examination Program, that will start in
just a few weeks. And I couldn't be more excited.

In this edition of Weekly Strokes, I'll share with you a
few fascinating things I've learned from skimming the first
few chapters of the textbook, as well as some juicy details
from the first case we'll examine.

THIS I NEVER KNEW:

Of course you've heard of the kidnapping of the
Lindbergh baby. Even though this was in the early
30's, Charles Lindbergh was such a icon of this
country, that the nation was in thrall at the horror
of it.

Two men, accused of the kidnapping and murder of
Lindbergh's son, were convicted, in large part,
thanks to handwriting identification. A total of
8 examiners testified, regarding a number of ransom
notes, which established the legitimacy of such
identification to the public.

In fact, handwriting experts were probably the first of
the forensic experts to contribute to the judicial system.

THE CASE THAT READS LIKE A SOAP OPERA:

I'll call them Dick and Jane. Cousins, and both
beneficiaries of a relative's will - a considerable
amount of money.

In dispute: a number of checks, and an envelope which
contained a typewritten letter to Dick's employer.

Along the way, there were accusations of sexual misconduct,
career-threatening libel and slander, burglary,
harassment, and restraining orders. The court case involved
suits and counter-suits, disagreement among experts, and
potential criminal charges.

And it all boiled down to this: Did she write the
address on the incriminating envelope...or did he?

You can see the samples in the first week of class, the court
documents, and even Curt's final letter of testimony. But,
only if you sign up now as a student to our 2-year apprentice
program.

F.A.Q.
=======================================

A question posed to our Lead Faculty Expert,
Expert Document Examiner Curt Baggett:

Q. How often do you actually testify in court
on forgery cases?

A. "Actually, in over half the cases, I never had
to appear in front of a jury. Because of the law
and the exhibits I provide, the opposing attorney
settles out of court - or drops the case altogether".

wide open, so the market is definitely there.

-Ken Fong Student, Fall 2003

I love the learning process and solving cases.
