In researching successful people, one trait kept re-occurring: BIG EGO.<\/p>\n

YEO is one of the most selective and<\/p>\n prestigious clubs in the world. Each member must be a business owner, under<\/p>\n age 40, and their company must gross over 1 million per year to become a member.<\/p>\n So, in lecturing to this audience, I did some extra homework on ‘high achievers.’<\/p>\n In the audience, ‘all’ of the men had one thing in common: large first letters in their name<\/p>\n and most of their signatures were sloppy, illegible and written with great speed.<\/p>\n The women business owners actually had less predictable traits and a less obvious<\/p>\n ‘ego-maniacal’ way about them. I suppose that is the beauty of being able to balance<\/p>\n one’s female and masculine energy in business. As part of my research, I discovered a<\/p>\n new employment screening technique called ‘Life-Themes’ which essentially looks for<\/p>\n significant ‘patterns’ in an applicant’s life. These patterns or ‘themes’ can be used to accurately<\/p>\n determine the probability of success. 85% of the draft level incoming NBA players who ranked<\/p>\n high in the BIG EGO and ‘Need to be Famous’ personality categories were still in the league<\/p>\n five years later. Only 5% of the players that did not have BIG EGO were in the league five years later. ‘<\/p>\n — Fast Company Magazine<\/p>\n This is no different that what a very talented professional handwriting analyst does on a regular basis.<\/p>\n Any trained monkey can spot individual traits in the handwriting (just given the Grapho-Deck Handwriting Flash Cards.) What separates an amateur from a $300 per hour professional is<\/p>\n The ability to see ‘patterns’ of behavior and in turn, apply those patterns of personality, beliefs,<\/p>\n fears, and values to the job in question. According to the above featured article, the basketball team,<\/p>\n ‘Cleveland Cavaliers’ used ‘Life-Themes’ to improve their DRAFT choices in the early 1990’s.<\/p>\n The results were impressive.<\/p>\n The researchers determined there were 3 key ‘themes’ that a successful player<\/p>\n must have to succeed in the NBA.<\/p>\n 1. ‘Court awareness’ – the ability to see where everyone is on the court and<\/p>\n intuitively knows where they are going.<\/p>\n 2. ‘Ability to tolerate pain’ – Pain is part of the game. Can they play while hurt?<\/p>\n 3. ‘Huge Ego’ – Yep, the successful players had a huge ego and a need to be famous<\/p>\n BEFORE arriving into the NBA. They didn’t get egomaniacal after becoming famous.<\/p>\n It was the BIG EGO that propelled them there!<\/p>\n So, from a handwriting analyst perspective, I could assist with spotting those with large egos.<\/p>\n But, I don’t know if there are predictable graphological patterns that would assist with criteria<\/p>\n #1 or #2. Many people perceive the word ‘EGO ‘ as negative or insulting. A healthy ego is an<\/p>\n important piece of a good self-esteem. You may find someone with t-bars at the top of the stem,<\/p>\n but if they have a tiny underdeveloped personal pronoun ‘I’ and a weak signature, the person<\/p>\n may be ambitious but lacks the ‘confidence and sense of certainty’ to really achieve. They may<\/p>\n achieve, but not to the level of a similar person with a healthy ‘I’ and large signature. When I told<\/p>\n them they were both big ‘ego-maniacs,’ they laughed… and agreed. It takes ego to put your name<\/p>\n on a book and sell 63 million copies. Both guys are great. In this case, the ego isn’t a bad thing.<\/p>\n It may be difficult to see how large Mark’s signature really is… but the writing is much larger than<\/p>\n a quarter in height. Remember – the ego, self-esteem, and pride are different personality traits that<\/p>\n all feed off of each other. Keep them separate in your mind and you will know why I believe ego is healthy, self-esteem is essential, and too much pride or vanity is a pain in the bum.
