Don't Call it Secretaries Day:
by Kathi McKnight (Certified Handwriting Analyst)
Wednesday, April 27, 2005 Administrative Professionals Day Secretaries/Administrative Assistants have long been unrecognized as the center wheel, and the hub of an organization. How many organizations would simply fall apart without these vital, hard working, often overlooked people? There are many strokes that would indicate who would make a good hire as a secretary or Being on time. This is shown by a beginning stroke that goes right into the first letter, with no lead in stroke. The sample below shows both types of writing - upper sample has no lead in stroke, and the lower sample does. Attention to detail. Good listener. Example - closed o's and a's. A person who is a good listener will have closed o's and a's - and preferably no loops inside them. I'll bet a lot of administrative assistants would love the opportunity to sneak a peak into their prospective boss's handwriting before they accepted the job too!! If you were a hard working administrative assistant, aka, secretary, what would you like to know about If he or she is moody?
How about if they have a temper? What if they procrastinate and then expect you to A SECRETARY BECOMES A MENTOR Many years ago, I was in an administrative position at a corporation. Talk about being a fish out of water! I worked for a "good ole boys" company and I'm a bit of a blonde, in every sense of the word. (And proud of it.) That poor company just didn't know what they were in So. I worked for a good ole boys company; and I found out how the secretaries were treated. Second class citizens, underpaid, underappreciated. In reality, they were smart, hardworking, good hearted women. The majority of them were single moms, struggling to make ends meet. I was biding my time, trying to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. I'd worked at several interesting jobs prior to this, including doing photography, working for an oil and gas company and even selling real estate! But, at this time in my life, I settled into a corporate position while I figured out what I wanted to really do with my life. I worked at the corporate headquarters, which housed two sister corporations under one roof. The companies shall remain nameless to protect the innocent. I had one boss for each company. Now trust me, I'm far more suited to be an entrepreneur than a secretary or administrative assistant. I remember I made a goof my first week there. I sent out a mass mailing to one set of presidents for one company ' all over the US ' and I was to send out another mass mailing to the other set of presidents for the other company, all over the US as well. Well, as luck would have it, I criss-crossed the mailings and sent the letters that were supposed to go to one set of presidents to the other presidents and if you are confused at this point'so was I. Needless to say, my two bosses decided to take me to lunch shortly thereafter. Ever the optimist, I thought, perhaps they are going to promote me!!! While really, deep in my gut I had a sinking feeling. It turns out, I was put on probation, not promoted; however, I hung in there for several more long years and I moved up the corporate level to handle their national accounts department. I liked what I did, but the politics were for the birds. I finally went on to do something that was truly my heart's desire and I have been extremely happy ever since'working for myself. It's funny, what goes around comes around. One of my bosses was fired for sexual harassment, and the other boss was demoted by her boss for making a mistake similar to the one that I had made. I made so many good friends at that company with the other secretaries. To this day we still get together about once a year and celebrate how we moved on, and how there was, in fact, life after '______' company. Some of the horror stories that came out of these gals' mouths about their bosses!! If only I'd known handwriting analysis back then. It could have saved everyone a lot of trouble. It was during that time when I was desperate to find my true vocation in life, that I took my very first handwriting analysis class. I mentioned it to a friend and she told two friends, they told two friends'..and before you know it, we had our very own class. At the end of the eight weeks, the teacher pulled me aside and said'.'You have the calling. You could really do something with this if you choose to.' I will never forget that. Pursuing handwriting analysis has led me on some of the most colorful and fun vocational experiences of my life. As it turns out, Administrative Professionals Day shares the week with Big Brothers/Sisters Appreciation Week and Teacher Appreciation Week. I had a good mentor when my graphology instructor pulled me aside and encouraged me to give it a go. 'It' being going for a dream that was listening to the beat of my own inner drummer. Big Brothers and Big Sisters and great teachers also play the role of very important mentors'what would be important qualities to look for in a mentor? And how does that WHAT TRAITS IN HANDWRITING A mentor should have a solid sense of self and good self-esteem, which is demonstrated by a high-crossed t-bar and an underlining of their signature. They should be a good teacher and a good listener They should have a good sixth sense, a strong sense of intuition. Intuition is shown through breaks in the baseline, as seen in the sample above. I have had a lifetime of experiences where intuition has played a vital role in my life. It inspired me to create a mini e course called, 'The 7 steps to Intuition.' A good mentor should have a sense of humor: They should be emotionally responsive and relate easily to others And they should have a lot of enthusiasm They should definitely be stable and have a desire for responsibility. Example: Large loop in beginning of letters W and M (As you may have noticed, a lot of these traits can be found in Bart's handwriting Graphodeck cards.) There really is no vocation where handwriting analysis wouldn't be extremely helpful and insightful. If you get the chance to attend one of Bart's all day seminars, you will walk away a changed person. Don't be fooled. Everything you say and do matters. Everything. You never know when you are being looked to as a mentor.
